Quota is a built-in feature on Microsoft operating systems. This great tool can allow administrators to control the amount of storage upon the users. While configuring Quota, admin has the ability to configure the event log when a user is near full the limited storage. Suppose I am the admin and I will limit a drive which has 100 GB. I will use it to limit this drive for 40 GB for RODC Admin, I will set the exceeding limit to 35 GB. So, when the RODC admin reaches 35 GB, the drive will turn to red and it will create a system log on the event viewer where I can see what happened. Actually event viewer isn’t the only method where they can track upon the user, instead they can generate reports and use the event monitor to track quota issues.
Things to consider before Using Quota:
- Quota can only be enabled on Drives with NTFS Partition.
- Quota’s usage is mostly in Organizations over networks.
- In a corporation Quota will be configured per computer by admin.
- It can’t work on Groups and Users, but it can be configured for a single user or else everyone.
- This technology so impressive that without creating a task schedule after 1 hour it continues to update the storage.
Step 1. Open this PC and Select a Drive which you want to limit the storage for users on Windows 10.
Step 2. Right click on the selected drive and select properties. Then Move from General Tab to Quota by clicking on it.
Step 3. Select Show Quota Settings. Once Quota Settings Opens you can see that all the Settings are disabled and we need to enable and limit storage on the users.
Step 6. Once you select Apply it will re scan the Drive, depending on the size of the drive it will take several minutes. Now have a look how it looks after You Enabled it.
Step 6. Look for the account which you want to restrict, if it wasn’t available there, simply select Quota.
Step 8. Once again you will be back to the User Window, where the user is selected. So, select OK to go for further steps.
Step 9. Once you entered the user, it will ask you to enter the amount of storage for the User. This Time I will type 8 GB total storage and 7 GB is the Red line.
And Finally Congratulations on limiting storage over the user.
