What is File History?
Whit File History you are not really thinking about the health of entire system. You are just protecting your files, your documents, your pictures, your movies and extras…
With File History tool you can easily recover individual files if your computer lost or damaged or even you accidentally delete some file, you shouldn’t have. So first of all let’s set up File History.
To set up file History follow the steps.
1st Step: Go to settings of your computer.

2nd Step: Open update and security.

3rd Step: Open the fourth section Backup.

4th Step: And this is what look like, if it has been never setup before. You will need some storage drive to store backup on, and external hard drive is really the best option. So I already have my external drive connected. Click on Add Drive option than choose your drive.
Ok great now the backup is set up, and as long as this switch is for automatically backup my files as set you on than I know it is keeping my file backup. But what it is actually backing up?
1st step: Well click on the more options.

Backup These Folders, What can you do actually there?
There you can see all the folders are being backup. In sub folders contained in these folder also backup, if this folder look familiar because these folders are the list of my user folders so as I can see my download folder, contacts, desktop, pictures.
This is the reason, why you really should use the user folder to store your files. If there is any other folder on your computer that you want to include as backup or add to the list backup folders. Follow the steps.
1st step: Scroll up to the list of folders. Click on button of +Add a Folder you can choose your favorite folder to add.
2nd Step: At other hand if you don’t want to backup one of the folders that included in this list, you can remove it. So if I don’t want to backup my download folder. I can select it and I can hit remove.
Metalogics of Backup:
At the top there is a menu labeled Backup my files I Can choose a specific time. So default it set to backup every hour so you first setup this backup it makes a duplicate copy of all your files in those folders we have just seen. Every hour it checks if there is any change or deleted or if there is new file has been added in those folders. It will backup whatever has been changed and it is going to keep record of the contains of those folders on the hourly basses, so if i lose the specific file I will be able to recover from yesterday’s backup or maybe from last week.
2: other menu there is for how long you want keep your backups. Mine is saved for ever, I can choose the deferent amount time, maybe I only want to backup for one month old. When it gets older than that it automatically will delete that from the backup. I prefer to keep as many version of my backup is possible, I set this forever. Now the backup is set so as we wanted.
