Windows 10 don’t have any built-in technology to lock a folder. But users are using the third Party Programs to lock their folders on windows 10. A good Example is WinRAR and 7zip, which compress the files, and has the ability to lock them. Now you be wondering, what is Bit-Locker for?
Well, bit-locker is a windows built-in technology which can secure the files. But that is for entire Drive and External Storage like USB Flash Drive or an External Hard Drive. So, the idea is how we should lock a folder on Windows 10 without any third party software. To do that just follow the procedures.
How to Lock a Folder on Windows 10?
Step 1. To lock a folder on windows 10, open that folder, right click and select New> New Text Document.
Step 2. If you want to rename this Text Document, do it because later it won’t be needed.
Step 3. Copy and Paste the below script on the Text Document which we Created on Step 1.
Step 4. Now you need to setup a Password for the Folder. To do that Select edit> find. Now you have to type the “Your-Password-Here” and find that.
Step 5. Once you find that, close the finder window, and type your password instead of the Your Password here.
Step 6. Once you typed your password, visit file menu and select save as and save this document as a “FolderLocker.bat”
Step 7. Now go ahead and run FolderLocker.bat, a cmd window will open which says, are you sure you want to lock the folder. Type Y and Press Enter on the keyboard.
Step 8. A new Folder will be added by the name of Locker. Now you need to move your files inside it, when you moved again run the FolderLocker.bat and the locker folder will disappear.
Step 9. Now if you want to unlock the folder and wants to see the files, again run the FolderLocker.bat and type password, the disappeared folder will appear.
Playing around with the Codes
Suppose you don’t like the Locker folder name, title, or the text which asks are you sure to lock the folder, then what should we do? Well, in order to bring changes, open the text document which you created. Scroll down to the end, and find their md. MD is a cmdlet on cmd and Powershell which stands for make directory. Now remove the locker and type your wished name, I will type “my secured files”. Infect look at the screenshot, and type there, your wished folder name instead of Locker which I highlighted.
Note: Remember guys, if your directory contains space, than please put them in Quotes, otherwise it will create separate folder just like mine.
The Changes which we made was only for name of directory. Now I want to change name of the title while asking the lock the folder. So, look at the screenshot and type a name for the title. I have typed Boom!!! Fell Free.
Hey, look it has appeared on the title.
You can also bring changes to the Lock the Folder by type Yes, just look at the screenshot and bring changes there.
Or if you can’t edit name, just copy this edited version of code.
